To transfer and play mp3 files on your portable mp3 player, see the instructions for that specific device. Besides dedicated mp3 players like Apple's iPod, most PDAs and many cell phones have the ability to play mp3 files.
To play an mp3 file on your computer, you can probably use the mp3 software which is already installed. Windows-based computers since 1995, with some exceptions, come with Media Player preinstalled. Apple computers since 2001 come with iTunes preinstalled. When you click on an mp3 file on a web page or on your computer, it will probably play automatically.
If you see the following when you click on an mp3 link:
Select "Open with" and select the default option. Click "OK".
If you don't have a default option, it's probably easiest to download a free mp3 player. We suggest Winamp. Choose the "Full" version for the free player and follow the instructions for installation. The installation process will add plug-ins to your internet browsers, like Safari or Internet Explorer, as well as make Winamp the default player for mp3 files played from your computer.
